I met Sam Doe the very first time seated at a big round table in the Martin Chapel. I know you remember that day Sam, because you once introduced me recalling the moment. I think you said you were expecting an old decrepit professor-type. Well I am not quite there yet, but I am making progress toward your original image. What you did not know, could not have known was that our first handshake in Martin Chapel marked the beginning a new Era in my life. I have come to believe that the meaning and evolution of life might best be marked not by the dates of activities, jobs, or accomplishments but by the relationships, the moments when human beings intersect in each other’s lives. So somewhere around May of 1995 I entered the Sam Doe Era of my life…
