Remembering Forward: The Visionary Practical Scholarship of Adam Curle
"I have often wondered why few if any people cite the notion of befriending as part of mediation and I think it has to do with the ways in which professionalism disembodies us from our own humanity."

I’m very, very thankful to be here. I have probably more things to share than fit in thirty minutes so this is going to be, I’ll try to stick to what I have written in order to keep it direct, to the point, and hopefully leave a small block of time for some interaction with you in questions.

When I began to draft this, I took a closer look at some of the papers and topics that were under discussion at this conference. Many of you are presenting in panels and they seem to coincide with some of the major challenges and debates that we have in our wider field. Three came to mind as a way that I would frame at least the ways that I experience from a viewpoint of a practitioner-scholar the challenges of peacebuilding in our contemporary expressions, especially of armed and violent conflict and the contexts that have to deal with that. So as a starting point let me list these three and then come into essentially sharing some ideas about Adam’s work that I think still remain relevant to these challenges…
